What the Cyprus climate asks of a window
Cyprus windows work hard: long hot summers, intense UV, big day-to-night temperature swings, coastal salt air and the occasional winter storm. Those conditions reward frames that stay dimensionally stable, finishes that resist fading and corrosion, and glazing that keeps heat and glare out without making rooms dark.
Two things matter most for comfort and running cost: a thermal break in the frame (so heat doesn't conduct straight through), and the right glass (to cut solar gain). The frame material sets the look, the strength and the maintenance; the glazing does much of the performance work.
Aluminium — the popular choice here
Aluminium is the most common choice for Cyprus projects, and for good reason: it's strong, so frames can be slim and sightlines large; it takes a durable powder-coat finish that holds up to sun and salt; and modern systems use a thermal break for insulation. It suits big openings, sliders and contemporary looks, and it's the basis of commercial facade and curtain-wall systems.
Timber, uPVC and steel-look — where each fits
Timber gives warmth and a traditional or high-end look, and insulates well, but wants more maintenance in a harsh, sunny climate. uPVC is cost-effective and low-maintenance for straightforward residential openings, though frames are bulkier and the look is less refined. Steel-look systems give the slim, black, industrial aesthetic (internal screens, Crittall-style) — often paired with aluminium performance.
There's no single 'best' — it depends on the building, the exposure, the look you want and the budget. We supply all of these and advise per project.
How we supply windows
Every window is made to measure to your sizes, opening types, frame colour and glazing specification, and delivered to site. For a project we price the full window schedule together with the rest of the package. Send drawings or a schedule and we'll advise the right system and quote it.
Common questions
Is aluminium or uPVC better for Cyprus?
Aluminium is usually preferred for its strength, slim frames, durable finish in sun and salt, and suitability for large openings; uPVC can be a cost-effective choice for simpler residential windows. We supply both and advise per project.
Do your windows have a thermal break?
Our aluminium systems are available with a thermal break for insulation. The right glazing (double glazing, low-E and solar-control coatings) is specified alongside it for the building's orientation and exposure.
What glazing cuts the heat and glare from the sun?
Solar-control (low-E) coatings on double glazing reduce solar heat gain and glare while keeping rooms bright — which matters most on south- and west-facing elevations. We specify the glass for each window's orientation and exposure rather than using one spec throughout.
Do aluminium frames cope with coastal salt air?
Yes — powder-coated aluminium resists sun, heat and salt corrosion, which is why it's a common choice for coastal Cyprus projects. The frame colour and the hardware are chosen to suit the exposure.
